Dessert Disaster

I had every intention of creating the most beautiful and tasty cake today to feature on tomorrow's Tasty Tuesday, but like we all know, things don't always go according to plan! My goal was to create a confection with our Raspberry jam, but every part of me wanted ooey gooey chocolate! To put it all together, I decided I would bake a chocolate torte cake, and layer raspberry jam and ice cream in between. I quickly realized as my cake resembled the leaning Tower of Pisa, that my intentions were failing! I scraped off the ice cream and replaced it with Cool Whip (still didn't help much). I frosted it as fast as I could and topped it with a little decorative swirl and some thawed Red Barn frozen raspberries. I couldn't get a picture fast enough! My cake was falling apart in every direction! Don't get me wrong, it was still delicious, just a little hard on the eyes!Ahh - raspberry down! The others were close behind it! Have you ever had a dessert disaster? Leave a comment with your worst dessert disaster for a chance to win a Red Barn pie - the ultimate fail proof dessert!

Winner will be selected randomly. Must be able to pick up pie, as we are unable to ship them.

  1. Biggest dessert disaster huh? Not sure about that one, one thing that I love is dessert and for me to let one become a disaster is, well, my definition of a disaster! I can say that one of my most common mistakes is putting in too much salt or deciding to double a recipe and then forgetting halfway through...

  2. Waaaay back when I was in jr. high, I decided to make some no-bake cookies for my family. Being a tad inexperienced in the kitchen, I used corn OIL (remember when it was corn oil instead of vegetable oil?) instead of corn SYRUP. I ended up with a pot of slimy goop and a very unhappy mother.

  3. My biggest disaster was using baking soda instead of powder and doubling it, thinking it would equal what the recipe called for! NOPE! The Peanut butter bars turned out horribly, I had to throw out the whole pan! haha

  6. Wow! I've actually got a good one. It was a really HOT summer's day and my mom was asked to bake brownies for a funeral...a really sad funeral that was for a boy the age of 20. She forgot all about it and on that day she was working!!! (a 12 hour day). So she asked my sister and I to please bake them! Well we started by pulling things out of the fridge to bake and by the time we even got the butter into the bowl it had melted!! We assembled all ingredients and baked it. You can imagine it was NOT baking...it was runny and my sister and I were running out of time!! So we thought we'd start all over. We figured it must be our mom's oven not baking properly! So we drove over to my GMa's house, with all the ingredients needed, to try it out in her Brand New Oven!! She wasn't home but we thought it would be okay to use her oven without asking...

We assembled all ingredients and half way through baking smoke started coming out from the oven door! OUR Brownies were on FIRE!!!!!!!!! I'm not kidding, there were flames coming from the brownie pan!!

To end this story, we called the lady who expected us to drop off properly baked brownies for the funeral and told her it just wasn't working out for us...the funeral went on anyways and my sister and I cleaned up as much as we could...never wanting to explain to our GMa what we did in her oven!!
